The Dark Knight Review

Starring: Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman
Year:
2008

I'm biased. Sue me. I'm a teenage boy going to see a superhero movie. Not just any superhero movie, but a Batman movie. How could I not like it? Well, as long as it didn't turn out anything like "Batman Forever" or "Batman & Robin". But from just the trailers you could tell it was going to be good. I just didn't know It would be that good. In all honesty, TDK wasn't a movie I was extremely excited about when this year started. "Cloverfield" and "Iron Man" stole much of my attention away from TDK and I had a sneaking feeling that it might not be as good as "Batman Begins". Boy was I wrong. The movie starts with one of the best bank robberies I've ever seen in a film like this. And it gets better. Tons of Explosions, magic tricks, and plot twists ensue and by the end of the movie you will be amazed. Believe me. Chris Nolan, TDK's Director, really knew what he was doing. One of my friends mentioned that the director sees things in these actors that nobody else can see. I mean would you really expect Heath Ledger, An actor best known as a gay cowboy, to play the Joker. Although I'm glad he did. Heath flipped that role on it's head and turned it into the best thing about TDK, And there was alot to pick from. TDK is arguably the best film ever. I've only heard one bad review so far, and that critic called it a mash up of load noises and dark atmosphere. If that's the worst you can say about it, then you know its good.

The Dark Knight Review

By: Chris Akins

Personally, as a child, I've never really liked Batman. I always that he was a little lame compared to real super heroes such as Spiderman or the Hulk. Not to mention, he had a young boy following him around in skintight short-shorts. That being said, when I saw the preview for Chris Nolan's adaptation on the series, I was slightly intrigued. This looked darker, more adult, and it didn't have Robin. Needless to say, I was quite pleased. It was an enormous step forward for the crime fighting bat. It implemented villains that many people had never even heard of before, and made them cool. Then I saw at the end of the movie, an opening for a sequel starring none other than the Joker. This had me a bit worried. Taking such a popular and cartoony character and throwing him into this dark world seemed to be a dangerous move for the young director. Though looking back, my real fear at adding this classic character was the fear that Robin might be making an appearance as well. All my worries were set aside however, when the new trailer for the Dark Knight was released. It looked bigger, better, and Robin was no where to be seen. I tried to keep my opinion until after I saw the film, but I couldn't help be giddy as I waited in line for the midnight release next to a man dressed in a very elaborate Batman suit. My response to the film... an epic masterpiece. By far better than any other super hero movie to date. The story was fantastic, the acting was amazing, and the action was awesome. Not to mention, The Joker was wickedly hilarious. One of the greatest villains since Darth Vader. I feel though, that people didn't give enough credit to Two-Face who I thought was a great addition to the film. As for actor Heath Ledger, no one can ever play the Joker again without being shadowed by Ledger's unbelievable performance. And of course, Christian Bale should be Batman for as long as he is alive. Two thumbs way up! This movie will be a big contender at the Oscars for sure. And as for another sequel, I don't even think Robin can ruin it now.
