You pretty much know what you're in for the second you choose to watch Four Christmases. You know it'll be a cliche dysfunctional family-themed rom-com starring two pretty and likable people. Reese Witherspoon's involvement will mean that the acting will either be above-par or the film will be a once promising-actresses swan song. The involvement of Vince Vaughn means that Frat Pack regulars will be making an appearance or two (this time being Jon Favreau, Mary Steenburgen, and Peter Billingsly). There isn't much to say about the film itself. When Vaugh's character and his girlfriend's trip to Fiji gets cancelled, they spend their Christmas break visiting all four of their separated parents (Steenberg, Robert Duval, Sissy Spacek, and Jon Voight). Of course baby vomit, red neck cage fighting, and commitment problems ensue. If there is one highlight to the film, it's Vaugh's portrayal of Joseph in a play Steenburgen's church puts on about the birth of Christ. Otherwise, aside from a few great, yet-wasted performances, this movie lacks anything even closely related to entertainment. Here's hoping Vaugh's next film is more "Old School" and less "Four Christmases".
