Chicken Dead Screencap

Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead Review

By: Michael Lee

Starring: Jason Yachanin, Kate Graham, Allyson Sereboff
Year:
2006

When a movie's DVD box claims: "As savage as "Dawn Of The Dead", as slapstick nutzoid as "Evil Dead 2"... An explotation film with soul!" and the cover art is a skull-f*cking zombie chicken, you can't help but to think a movie like this is good. When Wikipedia.com's synopsis states:

"Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead is a 2006 American musical-comedy horror Exploitation film from Troma Entertainment. Both a loose parody of Poltergeist and Night of the Living Dead and a satire on the fast food industry, the plot concerns a fried chicken restaurant that's overrun by chicken-possessed zombies. The film was directed by Troma president Lloyd Kaufman and co-directed by Gabriel Friedman, who also served as the film's editor and co-screenwriter along with Kaufman, off an original script by Daniel Bova.
After nearly three years in the making, Poultrygeist received its official limited theatrical run and DVD release in 2008, becoming the most critically acclaimed film in Troma's entire thirty-five year history"

...You can't help but to think the movie will be excellent. When Rotten Tomatoes says Poultrygeist has a certified "fresh" rating of 64%, with the general consensus being that it "may be relentlessly tasteless and juvenile, but it's also a lively slice of schlocky fun" you can't help but to think this movie is a B-movie masterpiece. But nothing can be farther from the truth. I go into this movie seeking hilarity and chicken zombies and find poop jokes and stupid musical numbers. I can see the appeal to true hardcore Troma fans or B-movier lovers, but to a normal functioning society how on God's green earth could this movie have a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes? "Step Brothers" a movie three times more hilarious has a 55% "rotten" rating. "My Bloody Valentine 3D" a movie I feel is just as creepy as it is fun, unlike "Poultrygeist", has a "rotten" rating of 59%. I want to know when American movie critics said "F*ck the entertaining movies, this movie insults the fast food industry with music and fart sounds so it must be good!"

The story in this movie is stupid. The actors in this movie are stupid. The jokes in this movie are stupid. If anything is to be said about this movie that is even worth recognition, it's that it has quite a few boobs and uses no CGI whatsoever, something that I feel must be brought back to horror movies these days! I understand there is a massive amount of people online who really, really enjoy this movie, and I'm not gonna say you're stupid or you're wrong, because as I said, I can see it's appeal. But I for one, say this is the worst movie ever to be made. Congrats Troma, for another job pathtically done.
