I'll admit it, I'm a nerd when it comes to Star Wars. I've loved it since the beginning, I collected hundreds of little toys , and I've written several parodies of the series, but that's not to say that I'm too biased. I know trash when I see it and I've got just four words: Attack of the Clones. Luckily the series redeemed itself with Revenge of the Sith and the animated series The Clone Wars. The 12 minute tv show was just spectacular as it contained almost no love story between Anakin and Padme, and provided an excellent adult themed story and action. Although I expected as much as it was on Adult Swim. So, when I heard that there would be a new animated Star Wars movie based on the series, I was more hopeful than those who whined "Awww animated?" That was until I saw a preview for the upcoming movie and realized that the adult themes had been thrown out the window and had been replaced with a baby Jabba the Hut. But, being a Star Wars fan, I forced myself to see it anyway. My verdict... Not bad. It was very entertaining and even some of the more childish attempts at humor were amusing. As I mentioned before, there is a baby Jabba and one problem I had with him was consistency to not die. He should have been killed so many times with all the falling and rolling around during fight scenes while he hung on the back of of our heroes. Apart from that and the more kiddie feeling to the film, my only real problem was the introduction to seemingly important characters in the series that are never seen in future movies. For instance, Anakin's new padawan (Ahno- something) who is very important in the movie and survives in the end, isn't so much as mentioned in Revenge of the Sith, which takes place right after this one! There's also Asaaj Ventress (or however you spell those weird Star Wars names) who is a very cool villain that also never sees the light of day in the next film. So what gives? Do they die in the short time between the movies? Perhaps they kill each other at time. Anyway, apart from the minor flaws, this is a pretty solid addition to the series that definitely surpasses Episode II. It is very enjoyable as long as you can look past the childish themes and I recommend that you at least see it when it comes out on DVD. If anything , it'll hold you over until Episode VII is made. (I can dream can't I?)
